The Solace of the Sea started with some research on the importance of Mablethorpe for Tennyson; his family had a house there, and Alfred went there for both inspiration and mental ease.

I wanted to add to this a voice relating to the Mablethorpe I know as a family man, as I had many holidays there when my son was a toddler.

Overall, the theme I tried to explore was one of nature’s consolations and its enrichment of our spiritual being.
